University space research activities, such as those conducted in the Space Physics Research Laboratory, have always been the foundation of space science research in the United States. They provide the intellectual stimulus for the many exciting adventures that have been undertaken. They provide the new instrumentation, the analysis of data, and, most importantly, the next generation of scientists and engineers on which the future of the space program will depend.
